Centrifugal Solids Separator

Anyone who pumps water for any purpose - irrigation, industrial, or private and public water systems - knows their greatest enemy is sand, silt and grit. These elements reduce efficiency of equipment by plugging and clogging sprinklers, drip emitters, valves and spry nozzles. They also cost time and money in repairs, replacement parts, downtime, wasted energy, and a loss of productivity. Decreased efficiency is also a major problem as equipment gradually clogs up or wears out, lowering productivity until replacement occurs.

The Centrifugal Solids Separator - designed for easy installation-removes 98 percent of 200 mesh or larger sand, grit, and other solids heavier then water before entering expensive equipment. Liquids/solids enter the unit and set up a circular flow with centrifugal action tossing heavier abrasives downward in a spiral motion to the separation chamber. There, the particles drop into the separator's collection chamber and are purged from the system. The purified water is drawn tot eh separator's vortex and up through the outlet. It can now be dispersed to equipment without causing clogging, plugging or wear.

Installation & OperationAutomatic Purge Valve

Installation

  1. Connect separator discharge to clean liquid pipeline using short nipples and union - same size as the separator discharge coupler.
  2. Install nipple and purge valve - same size as purge coupler.
  3. Using the bell reducer, supplied with separator, connect the separator inlet to the pipe carrying solids - laden liquid. Note: Steel pipe will support the weight of the separator. However, the separator can be bolted to a post, beam, or to a wall, if desired.
Operation
  1. Blow the purge valve often enough to keep the separator from becoming "sand bound".
  2. If the sand volume is too much for hand purging, automatic purge systems may be used.
Maintenance

Since there are no moving parts, these separators are trouble free.

Vertical In-Line Separators

Normal Use: Between pump and system above ground.

Protects: Equipment between 5 and 345 GPM.

Ideal: For domestic house lines, sprinkler systems and industrial equipment.

Pressure Drop: See curves for proper size.

Larger Pipes or Volumes: See our AS Separator Section.

Backwash Time and Waste: Install separator ahead of sand filters for reduction

Minimum Fine Sand Passage: Where this is not acceptable, use a separator ahead of a fine filter.

Automatic Sand Blowoff: Excellent systems are available when desired.

Modifications: Can be made for low operation pressures.

Centrifugal Sand Separator Automatic Purge Valve

Does the dirty work for you

Solids Purging Automatically. Reliable. Simple. Effective

Purging of separated solids is important. Separators may be purged Manually, but we recommend as Automatic System, so the user takes no risk of not purging the system often enough, therefore elimination problems.

Programming is Simple

Set button T1 to any valve opening time - 15 minutes to 12 hours. Set button T2 to any time between 1 and 90 seconds, to determine the length of time the valve is to be open – usually 20 to 25 seconds.

The automatic purge system minimizes liquid loss and concentrates solids for easy handling. Saves money, time, and labor. It eliminates the possibility of the separator becoming “sand bound” which condition nullifies the effectiveness of the separator. The valve construction is ideal for the typical solids and may mild abrasives. The solid state plug-in controller can be placed in the normal pump control box. Other purge methods are available.

Features:

  • Solid brass construction
  • Water-proof solenoid coil, guaranteed for the life of the valve
  • Coil can be rotated 360 degrees and easily removed without removing solenoid operator
  • Slow closing, no water hammer, surge or noise
  • Brass drain cock for manual operation
  • Pressure rating 200psi
  • Cross handle flow control standard on 1” through 3” sizes, optional on ¾” size
  • Diaphragm of one-piece molded construction with integral o-ring seal reinforced with 600lb. test fabric
  • Stainless Steel insert seat in solenoid chamber
Operation:

Application of voltage to the input of the timer initiates the OFF delay. Upon compltioin of the OFF delay, the relay energized and the ON delay begins. Upon completion of the ON delay, the relay de-energized and one cycle is competed. This OFF/ON cycling continues until voltage is removed from the input. The OFF/ON delay periods are independently adjustable.
