"Quality you can feel... A difference you can taste."

There are several reasons why adding a swimming pool to your property is a great idea. For starters, a swimming pool adds to the value of your house. You will get much of your investment back when you sell your home and your property will appeal to a much larger audience. Furthermore, adding a swimming pool increases the ways in which you can entertain guests and your own family.

Let’s face it, everyone loves a swimming pool. Being near the water makes people feel good and children especially love to play in pools in their free time. In general, swimming pools provide a place to relax without having to leave your home. They also provide a great place to exercise considering the fact that swimming is one the very best means of exercise for your entire body. Ever hear of water aerobics?

Some homeowners worry that shape of their yard is not accommodating to a swimming pool. Maybe in the past this may have been a serious concern, but today’s pools are designed in an array of shapes and sizes so that they can fit just about any yard. Keep in mind, if you are thinking about adding a hot tub or home sauna to your backyard activities then make sure to consider the space that will used by both when thinking about the size and shape of your pool.

Decking is another design feature that can be added to your pool experience. There is a great variety of decking options if you are interested. The first thought that most people have when they hear decking is wood or composite deck, but the truth is that decking refers to any material that surrounds your pool. It may be concrete, brick, stone, gravel, or some other alternative. The idea is to expand the area surrounding your pool as to increase the space available to entertain and utilize. Review your options carefully to ensure you select the bet possible material for your home.

Additional Swimming Pool Remodeling Ideas

  • Accent Lighting: Make your pool mesmerizing at night by installing accent lighting around the landscaping and deck areas. Consider adding gas fueled fire pits.
  • Waterfalls: Consider adding custom designed fountains and water features to compliment your pools landscape design.

  • Landscape Design: Get as creative as you want with your poolscape and add as much personal taste to it as you want by working with a custom design team on your landscaping.

  • Fencing: Often times, the city will require that your pool be enclosed by fencing. If this is the case, consider working with a design consultant so that they can make fencing recommendations that will not only add the overall pool design, but also abide by local requirements.

In Ground Swimming Pools

Inground Gunite

Gunite Pools are the most elaborate of all the pool categories. These are permanent, reinforced pools with concrete and plaster instead of liners. Excavation is also necessary, and wide variety of special options such as waterfalls, custom steps, ad beach entrys can be easily added to complement these high-quality pools. Gunite pools are often seen in commercial applications; many private homeowners, however, also choose Gunite pools for the flexibility since they can be built in any shape. Gunite pool owners can also choose from many plaster finishes or pebble applications for the pool floor, allowing for maximum creativity. The high quality of these pools usually puts them in the highest price range.

Inground Vinyl

Traditional inground pools usally have reinforced walls with vinyl-liners. Rectangular pool are most common, but an interesting variety of L-shaped, free form, and other shapes are also available. Manufacturers have created many new liner patterns and colors, so there are many options pools owners can choose to enhance their poolscapes. Excavation of the pool site is usually necessary before installation, so inground vinyl pools fall into a more expensive price range. Optional features add to the price, but they are often worth the extra cost for the aesthetic benefits.

Fiberglass

Another popular selection is a fiberglass pool. These units are a one-piece shell, which is installed directly into the ground. These types of pools are usually made of a full fiberglass molded shell, but some combine concrete or other materials with the fiberglass. You can choose lots of styles and shapes; delivery and installation are normally faster than traditional in-ground construction pools. Some pool owners prefer the fiberglass finish, which eliminates the need for the liners and re-surfacing. Fiberglass swimming pools can be easier to maintain, requiring fewer chemicals.

Spa/Hot Tub Overview

Hot tubs have come along way since they first hit the market in the 1960's. Today's hot tubs are typically made from acrylic, fiberglass, and tough thermal plastics. In the past they were only made from wood, plaster and tile. Today's spas are also designed to accommodate any climate and decor and have bubbles, built-in chairs, drink holders, jets, and other wonderful features.

Hot tubs can be used for several purposes. Common uses include spas which accompany a swimming pool, spas used for exercise and therapeutic purposes, spas used for entertaining guests and family and spas used for personal retreats located in master bedroom or other secluded areas of the house. You have the oprion to have a free-standing hot tub or an in-ground hot tub, depending on where you plan to have it located and what you plan to use it for. Keep in mind, outdoor installation and maintenance is less expensive.

In-ground spas are more complicated to install and also cost much more. However, they do end up looking wonderful in the master design. Free-standing spas are simple to install and only require a garden hose and power supply. The sizes of both will vary depending on how many people you plan to have using the hot tub. The most common size holds between 450 and 500 gallons of water and comfortably seats about 6 adults.

In general, included in the price of your hot tub is the delivery, installation and commissioning. But before purchasing a hot tub, it is best to consider ALL additional costs associated with its use. For example, if you purchase a six-person hot tub you should expect to pay about $12 a month for heating. You should also anticipate an increaser on you water bill for every month that you change the water within you tub. It is recommended that you switch out the water every two months. Furthermore, a good amount of money will go toward regular maintenance such as chemical treatments and cleaning.

There are many ways to spice up a hot tub these days. In fact, today's hot tubs include many lifestyle features such as audio and visual combinations, special lighting, customized seating arrangement and head rests and the like.

Installation It's not paradise until it's finished. You should expect your backyard to be "visually unpleasant" during the installation process. Expect a vinyl pool installation to take 1 to 2 weeks. Completion times may vary with state and local inspection criteria. Typically, the builder will spell out the precise terms, timeframes and responsibilities of each party in your contract. Your pool builder may do the entire job or may enlist the help of a subcontractor to complete the work.
